The Commoners' Charity Landpost

Here is the correspondence between myself and the family the family earlier nominated by ldy_shadow. in this particular situation, there is a core group of us who reside close enough to marion county that we could physically take some things if necessary. a few of you have children who have probably outgrown some clothes we can perhaps send their way. i have contacted her again to see if she can hook up a paypal button.

"All the information I have, I sent through to the group. My father, who is
a retired Pastor is helping all he can which isn't much because he is disabled
and on a fixed income. My own family has bought some things whenever we are
able to. My parents spent their own money on food for them last week.
I don't know why they moved here from NY but I can ask my parents if they
do. They go over to visit them often to make sure they have food and such.
If you would like, I can give you my father's phone number so you can speak
directly to him or my mom. They take items to the home and buy food for them
often. They will be going back over to visit them this week.
The children are ages girl-9, boy-8, girl-5 and boy 18 months.

If you let me know what specific proof you need, I will do my best to
provide it for you.
Thank you so much for offering to help them."

"Here are the sizes that I have:
9 yo girl  (shoe size 1........clothing 7/8)
8 yo boy (shoe size .......clothing 7/8)
5 yo girl (shoe size 11 1/2 toddler.......clothing 5T to 6/6x)
18 months (show size 5 toddler...........18 months - 24 months or 2T
Mother (guessing here) about a 7/8 pants, medium shirt and 7 to 71/2
We have never met the dad. He is constantly working to support them. My
parents are supposed to be asking about his size when they go back over this

family in need... [Aug. 29th, 2005|08:37 am]
The Commoners' Charity Landpost

I don't know how we'd go about verifying it, and I don't think this is eligible for nomination since this family is obviously online, but I wanted to get this message out to as many people as we can. Considering the specific and meager things being requested, this doesn't strike me as being something someone would put the time into hoaxing.

Anyway, the message I recieved is cut and pasted below.

Subject: Wanted: Items For Needy Family

Hello everyone. I have a special request to help a family in need.

We have been made aware of a very needy family here in NE Marion county. This family of 6 moved here from NY a few weeks ago with only the clothes on their backs. There are 2 parents and 4 children ages girl-9, boy-8, girl-5 and boy 18 months. Friends of ours saw several kids making fun of these children at the bus stop last week due to the raggedy clothes they were wearing.

When my parents visited them, they had nothing....no beds, no blankets, no clothes, no toys, no furniture....nothing! They are buying the home that they live in but it is in bad shape. My mother came home from there crying.

My parents took the mom to the store a few days ago to buy some clothes for the children. The father is working hard but having a tough time supporting all their needs. He is trying!

As far as I know they need everything! Someone is donating dishes but they have no cooking pots & pans. They have a few clothes now for the kids but the mother would not let my mom buy anything for her. She wanted her children to have clothes and they bought her husband a couple pairs of pants. Someone is donating a baby crib for the little one. He has been sleeping on the bare floor.

If you feel like you have anything this family can use, please let me know. I would assume that they need more clothing (winter is coming...coats, pants, sweaters, shoes), beds, bed clothing, toys, food and basic household supplies. I'm sure you can think of more things that a family of 6 would need who have nearly nothing.

This is a very sweet family who have not asked for anything. Our hearts go out to them and we'd like to help them in any way we can.

Please contact me if you are able to help.

NE Marion County (Sparr)

I don't know any of these people, but I heard about their story and thought they could use our help.

The mom has a rare form of cancer. The youngest daughter has cerebral palsy. The dad lost his job of 27 years due to company downsizing. The medical bills (and other bills assorted with daily life) are swamping them. They can't get any assistance from the various organizations suggested by the American Cancer Society, in part because there are no young children at home. (The daughter with CP is nineteen.)

There are donation buttons on various parts of the site -- PayPal, Amazon.com, etc. The site is maintained by friends of Christina (the mom).

The Commoners' Charity Landpost

Oh my god oh my god oh my god, PLEASE vote for liltat2mama to be the July recipient!!!! I am so incredibly saddened by her story and send her all of my love and warmest thoughts.

I will be fine, some amazing people donated an xbox for Brandon, gave us ALL of our money back, and restored our faith in humanity :) We found a new apartment and will be moving in shortly, so everything's falling into place. I can't even imagine how liltat2mama's entire family is grieving. What happened to us is *nothing* compared to that kind of sadness. Please, vote for her!!

Thank you :)

A nomination and a plea for help... [Jul. 13th, 2005|08:58 am]
The Commoners' Charity Landpost

[Current Mood |crappyHeart Broken]

I recently heard of a tragedy that struck especially close to home. A young woman's only niece was violently and fatally shaken to death by her father and then placed back into her bed, looking as though she was sleeping. Her mother found her later, not breathing.

The child suffered a severe brain bleed, and was subsequently declared brain dead.

Her family, on top of being grief stricken not only at the loss of such a beautiful, innocent child, is also struggling with the lack of funds to give her a proper rememberance and funeral.

Her original post can be found here: http://www.livejournal.com/users/liltat2mama/45328.html

A link to the paypal button to the account she's opened for funding this is here: http://www.livejournal.com/users/liltat2mama/45923.html

Because this was posted on another community, someone has already verified proof there, but you are more than welcome to do so again. She said blatantly that she's more than willing to provide it for anyone who asks.

If nothing else, please pass the word on, and let's unite to help these poor people remember that some of us out there care.
